Sunday Grace No. 17

1 - I did the right thing for myself when I needed to and took a mental health break from parenting. It’s not something I’m proud of, but it’s something I needed to do, and I’m grateful for the time off.

2 - I bought a new plain notebook to start morning pages again.

3 - Writing has been going well on the days I have worked on it, I’ve had multiple 5,000 word days lately on a number of projects!

4 - I’ve committed to what I will be working on for NaNoWriMo - continuing the “Reborn” story that I am writing by the seat of my pants.

5 - Even when I am down in the dumps and having one of the hardest times in my life I still made it out of the house to write with Mike today and I needed it like a drink of water in the desert.

Sunday Grace No.16

1 - I finally started a new writing project (today) and wrote over 5,000 words in less than four hours. It was awesome.

2 - Elise and I went with my parents to a little farmer’s market in Bozrah and went on the wackiest podunk hayride of our lives.

3 - Kishi Bashi, and all the music they’ve ever made.

4 - The Walking Dead is back, and the first episode of Season 9 was better than all the episodes in the last two seasons, so yay.

5 - Black nail polish, always. It’s me.

Sunday Grace No.15

1 - I started my own Medium publication, the Friday Fright, a pub for writers of horror and fantasy. Go me. I hope it works out.

2 - This was the first period I’ve had since I’ve started getting my period again that I didn’t want to kill myself once!

3 - Elise got glasses! She’s slowly but surely adjusting to life with them.

4 - I started reading Needful Things by Stephen King after binging a bunch of his old interviews and talks and can’t believe I forgot this one - it’s good, classic old King.

5 - I’m determined to start a new writing project this week. Let’s see if it happens.

1 - The sound of my daughter singing in the backseat of the car - sometimes her voice comes out clear as a bell, so beautiful it hurts.

2 - Another top writer tag on Medium! This time in “Advice” which I don’t understand, but I’ll take it.

3 - Elise is getting glasses, they should arrive this week, and I’m glad I finally took her because not only does she need glasses, she needs bifocals!

4 - TMI, but I got through an entire period without crying at all, let alone having a total depressive episode. Better living through chemicals!

5 - I finished The Misleading Mind, a book that touches on using Buddhist thought to replace mental health care - I don’t think I’ll be giving up the pills yet but it’s given me a lot to think about.

Sunday Grace No.13

1 - The sound of the pounding rain on the roof of the library the first time I’ve been there in weeks. It makes for good background music.

2 - Buddhism - just as a thing I am exploring right now. I keep checking books out of the library and buying them at the Book Barn trying to figure out if this is the right thing for me - I think it is, but I have to find out for sure, somehow.

3 - I got the notification today that I am now a top writer in Mental Health on Medium, which I think makes my fifth tag! (I should write more on there. Derp.)

4 - I’ve started something, tentatively, under a new pen name. I have to just keep on going slowly but surely and maybe something awesome will come out of it.

5 - All of the coconut coffee I have had in my life recently… it’s been very good.

Sunday Grace No.12

1 - Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.

2 - That it’s Tuesday and I’m forgiving myself for not getting to this two days ago.

3 - I published a piece this week that I am really proud of on Medium, the “Getting Struck by Lightning” post, which is a story I haven’t told in almost twenty years.

4 - I’m grateful for my doctor. She is an amazing young black woman who makes me feel more comfortable than any doctor I’ve ever had. I honestly believe I could talk to her about anything, and I hope she sticks around for a long time.

5 - My mom, for letting me still hug her until I’m ready to let go.

1. My parents were on vacation this past week and it was wonderful to have the house totally to myself for a little while. I can’t overstate it enough how important it is for me to have alone time, and to be able to have two Elise free days with an empty house, too? Magic.

2. I realized that the entire Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice are available for free through the library on Kindle and I am already almost done with Interview - for the third or fourth or tenth time in my life.

3. I wrote four good articles already this month, even though I wish it were nine by today, that is better than where I was at this time last month, and that’s the best I can ask myself for - to do better every day, to write more every month.

4. Elise had the best week yet of homeschooling, scoring great on all of her online stuff and doing some great writing on her blog and she also wrote her first book review, which makes me a proud little mama.

5. Enjoying the day at Savoy Bookshop in Westerly today with Joanna and Mike, my writing buddies, even though it seems like we are all having a hard time getting things done today - at least we are here.

Sunday Grace No.10

1. Elise and I went mini-golfing at Saybrook Point and this was our view. I got a hole in one and beat her by a few points and it was no big deal because we got ice cream and watched this beautiful sunset.

2. I had a nice dinner out with the family even though my burger totally sucked.

3. Medium continues to be good to me in ways I am only beginning to understand and take advantage of.

4. I read The Outsider by Stephen King and it was one of the best books I've read in ages, and I love it when my favorite writer in the world does it again and again and again.

5. Another week of homeschooling has gone by without any major fails or meltdowns, and that's more than I can say for this time last year, so I'm really happy about that.

Sunday Grace No.9

1. A last minute invite from my awesome writing buddy Joanna to go to a "Winemaze" at a local orchard / winery. We had a blast getting lost in the very large maze, finding each tasting station among the corn. We got buzzed, then sat and chatted by a fire while the moon rose and the stars came out. It was a perfect friend date. Then I realized I locked my keys in my car.

2. Joanna, she's pretty great. She's the first new friend I've had in a while that has stuck, and I appreciate her very much.

3. Earlier in the week I took my first trip up to visit the Jones family at their new place in Massachusetts, and Gina and I took a nice drive through a very old cemetery near her house. Always a favorite pastime.

4. I got a lot of great feedback for an article I wrote on Medium, which was also the first time I was published in a new publication that I submitted to. I'm stoked about writing on Medium!

5. This Harriet Tubman quote, which was at the very end of a book I finished this week - The Future of Humanity, by Michio Kaku.
